CALL FOR NOMINATIONS:

COACH OF THE YEAR
USA Powerlifting is requesting nominations for the 2001 Coach of the Year Award
This award honors outstanding coaching ability and achievements. It is presented in the name of Dr. Billy Jack Talton - one of Powerlifting's all-time great and prolific coaches.

Nominations and support should be submitted to the National Office by 5pm (COB) on April 30, 2001.

Nominees will be posted on the website. Voting will take place during the month of May and will close on May 31, 2001 at 5pm (COB). You must be a member to vote and you can only cast one vote.

The Brother Bennet Award
USA Powerlifting is requesting nominations for the 2001 Brother Bennett Award. Nominations and support should be submitted to the National Office by 5 PM (COB) on April 30, 2001.

This award honors dedicated effort, and pro-active vision for the promotion of drug-free Powerlifting in our world. It is presented in honor of Brother Bennet, S.C., the founder of our great organization, and of the drug-free powerlifting movement.

Nominees will be posted on the website. Voting will take place during the month of May and will close on May 31, 2001 at 5pm (COB). You must be a member to vote and you can only cast one vote.


EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HIGHLITES

MARCH 27, 2001


  • The lifters rulebook has been updated with the technical rules changes put in effect with the IPF Congress held in November 2000.

  • Finally the Web newsletter "Powerlines" is about two weeks away from production.

  • A World Team Management Manual will be posted to the web page shortly.

  • USAPL is paying participation and doping fees for the members of USAPL World Master's Bench Press contest.

  • The Executive Committee will begin quarterly, instead of monthly, teleconferences to reduce costs.

  • PJ Couvillion has bee name as Co-Chair of the Technical committee.

  • Don Haley resigned from the Technical Committee and Dan Lark has resigned from the Executive Committee siting personal commitments and time constraints.

January 2000
  • Olympic Development Committee Established
  • Sponsorship Proposal Guide prepared by Lance Slaughter was accepted
    February 2000
  • Federation posted a hormone replacement therapy advisory on the website.
  • Vladimir Bogachev, Head of the Russian Powerlifting Federation attended the 2000 Women's National Championship.
  • National Referee Test was approved.
    March 2000
  • Disciplinary Committee convened with the job of answering the question of "Does a Meet Director have a right to refuse a meet entry and on what basis.
  • Jim Ford prepared a Powerlifting Video for inclusion in the International Olympic committee recognition package.
  • Athlete & Coach Magazine signed an agreement to film Junior Nationals and Men's Nationals to be included in their CD-ROM magazine. The magazine folded prior to filming.

  • Cancelled due to scheduling difficulties.
    May 2000
  • Plan for restructuring the National Office was developed.
  • Disciplinary Committee found no basis for exclusion of the lifter and suspended the membership of the Meet Director and he(she) was bared from putting on a USAPL sanctioned contest for two years.
    June 2000
  • The lifters who participated in the WPO event were suspended.
    July 2000
  • Dan Lark and Brian Hansen presented a Meet Directors guide.
    August 2000
  • Administrator hired for the National Office
  • Denim bench shirts will be considered illegal in USAPL as of January 1, 2001.
  • Merchandise page has been set up on the website. Photos taken by Janna Maile.
  • Lifetime suspension was given to James McGlynn.
  • Indiana University will stop IOC drug testing.
  • USAPL will accept bids for 2003 Women's Worlds Championships and 2002 Master's Bench Press Worlds.
    September 2000
  • Pacific Cup: the first dual sanctioned USAPL and IPF contest to be held in the US(Hawaii) in 16 years on December 2, 2000.
  • Lifetime Drug Free Records were reinstated.

  • Discussion of November 2000 IPF Congress

  • Larry Maile was appointed Vice President for the North American Powerlifting Federation.
  • PJ Couvillion was appointed Assistant General Secretary for the IPF.
  • The IPF removed all reference to professional Vs amateur in their by-laws, USAPL may parallel the IPF changes.
