New England States PL Champs May 18, 2002 COMMENTS ABOUT THE MEET: Once again Rene Moyen and the members of Next Level Fitness did a tremendous job in hosting and organizing this contest! The meet was very well run, the spotting was excellent, and the judging was fair and consistent throughout the day! These were some of the comments that I heard about the event. It did run a little long, but we are already taking steps to shorten the contest and have it run more efficiently. One suggestion was to switch to an easier, more manageable style of collars. This one change would cut approximately 1 - 1 ½ hours off of the meet time! We welcome all positive feedback and constructive criticism. These are your meets and we want to make them better for you - the lifter. Brand new squat racks were purchased by Rene and Mike of Northwest and these were a definite plus! Travis Regan and GCI Sports designed some very unique and outstanding awards that were a big hit with all of the lifters. As one can see by the results, the lifting was phenomenal at this event! Lifters came form Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island to take part in this year's New Englands. Many records were set by both men and women of all ages. Some of the many notable lifts were as follows: Eric Kupperstein lifting 1330 at 131 lbs., Tony Saunders squatting 905 lbs. On the 4th attempt after struggling with 830 on his opener and 2nd attempts. Tony also benched 500 lbs. Patrick Johnson squatted 725 lbs. and also benched 500 lbs. Tim Lyons squatted 705 lbs. While Andrew Miller benched 525 lbs.! Michael Campbell, Rick Johnson, Andrew Miller, Kevin Rossi, David DiRienzo, Jason Roy and Scott Gagnon were able to complete all of their attempts successfully! In closing, I would personally like to thank everyone involved in this event. The sponsors, loaders and spotters, officials, table help, admissions, concessions, Rene Moyen, Mike Macchiono, Next Level Fitness members - for again, without everyone's help we could not have hosted such a successful event! Most of all, thank you to all of the lifters who competed and supported out USAPL event. Without your support there would be no event! These meets will always be for you, and I look forward to seeing everyone in November for the USAPL Mass/Atlantic States. God Bless, Greg Kostas |
