The USA Powerlifting Sub-Junior Team will compete in the International Powerlifting Federation Sub-Junior World Championships in September in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Sub-Junior Team will consist of lifters between the ages of 14 and 18. Lifters that turn 19 during the calendar year 2006 are not eligible for the Sub-Junior Team, but are considered for the Junior Team (ages 19-23).

The USA Powerlifting Sub-Junior teams are selected using the High School Nationals and the Teenage/Junior Nationals. The Women's Teenage/Junior Nationals was held as part of the Women's Nationals in February in Denver. The High School Nationals was held in Omaha.

The highest total in each weight class is selected to the US Team, with ties being settled by who hit the total first (in cases of different contests) or by who was lightest if the total was hit in the same contest.

The second highest total in each weight class are selected as alternates. Alternates are ranked by how they would have placed at the last 3 Sub-Junior World Championships. Ties are decided using the Wilk's formula.

Since both qualifying meets for the Women's Sub-Junior Team have been completed, the USA Powerlifting Women's Sub-Junior Team is as follows:

97 - +Stephanie Seebruck - Wisconsin
105 - Allison Sandlin - Texas
114 - Katie VanDusen - Wisconsin
123 - *Caitlin Miller - Michigan
132 - *Caitlin Miller - Michigan
148 - Desire Marin - Texas
165 - Kasa Schroer - Nebraska
181 - Ashley Kueffer -- Nebraska
198 - Bonica Brown - Michigan
198+ - Lana Allen - Nebraska

*Note: Caitlin Miller has the highest total at 123 (Women's Nationals) and at 132 (High School Nationals), therefore the first alternate will be offered the open slot.

+Note: Stephanie Seebruck actually had the 2nd highest total at the High School Nationals, but Alyssa Cordova turns 19 in 2006. Alyssa will be an alternate for the Junior Team. Alyssa is from Texas.

The Alternates for the US Sub-Junior Team and their rank is as follows:

1 - *Kim Douglas (114 lb class) Michigan
2 - +Suzanne Salinas (132 lb class) Texas
3 - Dawn Sol (198 lb class) Wisconsin
4 - Kristen Smith (181 lb class) Louisiana
5 - *Kim Douglas (123 lb class) Michigan
6 - Lena Watson (148 lb class) Louisiana
7 - Allison Mattox (198+ class) Nebraska
8 - @Jarmontonae Terry (165 lb class) Louisiana
9 - Megan Williams (97 lb class) Wisconsin
10 - +Kayla Path (105 lb class) Michigan

*Note: Kim Douglas had the second highest total in two weight classes (114-Women';s Nationals) (123-High School Nationals), so there are actually only 9 alternates for the US Sub-Junior Women's Teams. As coaches are allowed to move lifters to where they will best help the team Kim Douglas, as the first alternate, will take the 123 lb slot for the US Sub-Junior Team.

+Note: Suzanne Salinas actually took 3rd at the High School Nationals, but the runner-up, Lora Marietta, turn 19 in 2006. Lora earned a slot on the Junior Team in the 123 lb class with her total at the Women's Nationals. Lora is from Kansas.

+Note: Kayla Paff actually had the 3rd highest total at the High School Nationals, but Brandi Smith turns 19 during 2006, so is considered for the Junior Team. And she will be the Junior Team lifter in the 105 lb class as she has the highest total for Junior Age lifters

@Jamontonae Terry and Kasa Schroer actually had the same total in the 165 lb class, but Kasa hit the total first at the Women's Nationals and Jamontonae hit the total at the High School Nationals.

If one looks over these two lists of lifters they see five states listed: Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas, Louisiana and Nebraska. What a testament to High School programs in these five states.

Coaches for the 2006 US Sub-Junior Team will be Mike Poirier-Head Coach, Karen Miller-Team Manager, Joe Lewis, Hector Munoz, Bill Hanselman, and James Hart. The team will also be assisted by Tod Miller who will serve to some extent as "Director of Operations". Anyone that know anything about the Plainwell Powerlifting Team knows that Mike Poirier and Tod Miller work together and make a great team. International Referees for the US Team will be Jack Marcus and James Hart.

Once I have the Collegiate Nationals results I will, along with Junior Team Head Coach Greg Simmons, select the highest totals and rank the alternates.

Any questions concerning these teams can be directed to myself, James C. Hart, Coaching Committee Member and Executive Committee Member, at jmshrt@aol.com or Sub-Junior Team Manager Karen Miller at TKMILLER51@aol.com.
