Dear Members of USA Powerlifting:

I am passing along to the members of USA Powerlifting a message from Norbert Wallauch, President of the International Powerlifting Federation, regarding our application regarding IOC recognition.

Kind Regards,

Robert Keller
NAPF General Secretary

THE LATEST NEWS FROM IOC

From time to time and now more and more often the IPF President is asked what is going on with our IOC application. In August 2004 we have sent an extensive file to the IOC in Lausanne, Switzerland following a questionnaire of 33 items which were required from applicants at that time. Meanwhile the International Olympic Committee has revised these criteria and accorded with the two other big organizations to which the IPF already belongs, i. e. the GAISF (General Association of International Sports Federations) and IWGA (International World Games Association). They all have to affiliate their members after the same system. What has been recently decided by GAISF, IWGA and IOC is now the basis for all applicants.

This means that the IPF as well as other international federations have to once again revise their applications. The advantage of the IPF on this regard: Our application was already well done and needs only some updates and a few modifications before being once again submitted.

The IOC will publish the detailed questionnaire in February 2007; the deadline for being presented shall be July. After being examined by the Sports Department and the Juridical Commission of the IOC the Sports Department will forward all applications to the IOC Executive Board - with or without the recommendation to be accepted. The final decision will be made by the IOC Executive Board at its September or November meeting.

Being admitted into the Olympic Movement would for the IPF as a first step mean a two years provisional membership to ARISF (Association of Recognised International Sports Federations) and after strict examination by the IOC the full membership.

To answer the question above what is going on with our IOC application: It will need one more year - but the IPF is on a good way to succeed!
