American Open

USA Powerlifting American Open (NS-2017-04) 

When: December 8-10

Where: Anaheim Convention Center (Anaheim, CA)

What:  This event is being held in the same venue as USA Weightlifting’s American Open.  This will be an exciting weekend, filled with amazing strength athletes in both powerlifting and weightlifting.

Qualifications to compete:

You must a registered member of USA Powerlifting for 2017.

AMERICAN OPEN: Any registered member of USA Powerlifting may compete in the American Open.  First place winners in the Open division will qualify for Nationals, regardless if you meet the qualifying total.

The American Open will be run with National meet standards including gear requirements, National level judges available for American records, technical secretary and a referee jury on the platform. This meet is intended to provide a National level experience for local lifters and prepare lifters for a National Level platform. Please read the complete USA Powerlifting rules found on

Weight Classes (in kilos):
Women: (43 teen and junior only), 47, 52, 57, 63, 72, 84, 84+
Men: (53 teen and junior only), 59, 66, 74, 83, 93, 105, 120, 120+

Divisions: Teen, Junior, Open, Master 1, Master 2, Master 3, Master 4

Registration Deadline: Midnight (EST) Nov 8, 2017

Events: Full Meet, Bench Only, Deadlift Only, Push-Pull

Entry Fee: $95. $30 for additional age divisions or additional event

This event will be a 2 platform event, limited to the first 350 lifters registered.  There will be morning session and afternoon session with times to be determined based on the number of entries.

Awards:  Awards will be given to the top 3 places in each weight and age category. Best lifter awards will be awarded to age categories where there is a minimum of 6 lifters in them.

Meet Custom T-Shirts: Meet Tshirts will be available for pre-purchase for $15 or $20 at the event, sizes limited.

Drug Testing:

You must be drug-free for at least 36 months prior to the date of this meet to be eligible to compete.  At least 10% of all lifters will be tested by urinalysis.   Banned substances include but are not limited to anabolic steroids and growth hormones.  The complete list of banned substances is available on the web site of the World Anti-Doping Agency (see
