Collegiate Cup Meet Director Info
Thank you for your interest in hosting a Collegiate Cup Series event!
We created this guide to help answer questions ahead of time. Our goal with the series is to make it competitive across the nation and really increase people’s hype and excitement for collegiate powerlifting.
Branding
The competition must be consistent with branding - “USA Powerlifting Collegiate Cup Series - [Insert City or State or Region].” If you’ve already submitted a sanction, please request a change in name to be in accordance with this. We have a logo for everyone to use to have consistent branding. If you have not received the PNG, please let us know. We can have it edited to add your individual state/region if desired. If there is an interest in ordering medals in this logo, please let us know.
Timing
Meets in the collegiate cup series must take place between October and February.
Sanction
Still submitted as normal to the National office, but will be forwarded to us so we are aware of the meet.
Collegiate Award Divisions Only
Divisions/Awards must be exclusive to the 4 collegiate divisions (M-C; F-C; MR-C; FR-C). Non-collegiate lifters may compete as guests. If it is discovered that other award divisions are being used for the competition, records set will not be recognized.
Enrollment Verification
Every college student has a physical or mobile student ID. This is the easiest and most convenient way to verify that the lifter is enrolled at their school. Do not require, or ask for, official transcripts. There is confidential information on these, and it is not an appropriate form of verification for the Collegiate Cup Series. If a student sets a CAR, we will need to verify eligibility with their transcript, so please inform us after the meet so we can reach out directly to the lifter.
No age restrictions
The age restriction in the rulebook is exclusive to Collegiate Nationals. Current college students of all ages are permitted to compete in Collegiate Cup Series events.
Team Awards
If you have the ability, we strongly encourage you to offer an award to the winning team in each division. Per the amendment approved by the NGB in 2020, College teams do not have to be an official USAPL Club to enter a team in local-level meets. The scoring needs to be done in accordance with how it is performed at collegiate nationals.
Teams may be registered in the following divisions:
Female - Raw Collegiate
Male - Raw Collegiate
Female - Equipped Collegiate
Male - Equipped Collegiate
Per division (female and male), each team is allowed a maximum of twelve (12) competitors spread throughout the range of bodyweight categories for females and males. There must not be more than two competitors from any one team in any particular bodyweight category.
Point scoring for team championships is as follows: 12, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2, for the first 9 placing in any bodyweight category. Thereafter, each lifter who makes a total in the competition shall be awarded one (1) point up until 25th place. Below 25th place will receive 0 points.
Only the point scores of the seven (7) best placed lifters of each team will be counted for the team competition at Collegiate Nationals. Team awards shall be given for the first five (5) places at Collegiate Nationals.
In case of a tie in points scored, the final team placing shall be decided for team awards as below:
If a tie occurs on points, the team having the greatest number of first places will be ranked first.
In the case of a tie between two teams having the same number of first places, the one having the greatest number of second places will be classified first, and so on through the placing of the maximum of seven scoring lifters.
Should teams finish equally after this procedure has been applied, then the team with the greater total number of DOTS points (of the seven best placed lifters) will be declared the higher placed.
A member of a team is found to have committed a violation of the anti-doping rules or code of conduct rules during an event where a team ranking is based on the addition of individual results (points), the points of the athlete committing the violation will be subtracted from the team result, and may not be replaced by the resulting points of another team member.
Collegiate American Records
Collegiate American Records (CARS) can be set at this competition. Therefore, the competition must have a minimum of 3 National Referees to sit in the chair during these records. A lifter needs to be under 27 and a full time student to set CARs. The eligibility will be checked after the record is set with an official transcript, so please email us with their contact information so we are able to reach out.
Collegiate Cup Series Leaderboard
It is our intent to do a leaderboard by DOTs for all the divisions. It will be active from the start of the series until the end with updates as results come in. Because of this, it would be helpful if the liftingcast results were sent to us at collegiate@usapowerlifting.com at the end of your competition.
