Qualifying Total Process Explained
Qualifying Format and Scoring for Collegiate Nationals
Qualification for Collegiates has been designed to:
- Emphasize the team aspect of Collegiate Nationals and encourage new and emerging programs to participate at a national level.
- Maintain a balance of competition amongst teams, regardless of size
- Maintain high-level competition.
- Control the size of Collegiate Nationals in order to provide a quality experience for athletes and meet personnel.
There are 2 ways in which you can qualify for Collegiate Nationals:
- As an individual (not a part of an official scoring roster of an entered team): You must attain the “Independent Athletes” qualifying total
- As a team member: You must be listed on the team scoring roster of the official university team/club you are representing AND have attained the “Athletes on Team Scoring Roster” qualifying total

Understanding Scoring Rosters
Teams may be registered in the following divisions:
- Men’s – Equipped
- Men’s – Raw
- Women’s – Equipped
- Women’s – Raw
Teams must be an official USA Powerlifting Registered Club prior to registering for any team divisions at Collegiate Nationals.
Per division, Teams can select up to 12 lifters on a scoring roster. No team can exceed more than 2 lifters in the same weight class.
Athletes must be listed on the official scoring roster in order to record team points at Collegiate Nationals. Athletes named on scoring rosters will be required to achieve the “QT for Athletes on Team Scoring Rosters” at least 30 days prior to the start of the championships.
Any athlete who is not listed on a team’s scoring roster will need to achieve the “QT for Independent Athletes” at least 30 days prior to the start of the championships.
